Sizing conventions vary by brand and by cut — this table shows the standard published conversion. Always check the garment's own size chart when one is available. See how these tables are compiled.
US baby clothing sizes by age in months (0-3, 3-6, and so on), while the standard EU chart sizes by height in centimetres over the same age bands — a US 6-9 months size converts to a EU 68-74cm range.
Because babies grow at very different rates, the EU height-based approach is arguably the more useful number if you know your baby's actual length; the age-based US size is only ever an average guess for that age.
Frequently asked questions
Is height-based EU baby sizing more accurate than age-based US sizing?
For an individual baby, generally yes — babies vary a great deal in length at the same age, so a height figure in centimetres is a more direct match than an age-month range.
